New LRSD Numeracy Lead Teacher & New Stavely Acting Principal
Livingstone Range School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Numeracy Lead Teacher for the 2017-2018 school year.
Kathy Charchun, who has been principal at Stavely Elementary School, will be moving into the new position, created through the Classroom Improvement Fund.
The position requires a math-oriented person with strong skills in technology, data collection and analysis, and a commitment to student achievement and engagement - all criteria demonstrated by Kathy’s many years of inspired leadership and teaching in LRSD.
Kathy began her career with LRSD as a teacher at JT Foster and Willow Creek Composite High Schools, then principal or assistant principal at GR Davis, Stavely, FP Walshe, West Meadow, and back to Stavely as principal until this year.
Although Kathy is excited to step into the brand-new position of Numeracy Lead Teacher, she is also sad to be leaving the Stavely community behind.
“It is with very mixed emotion that I announce to the school community that I have accepted a new position with LRSD as the divisional math lead for next year,” says Kathy. “This community is truly one of a kind and I will miss working directly with you very much.”
Dana Burrows, Assistant Principal at West Meadow in Claresholm, will assume the role of Acting Principal in Stavely. She and Kathy have worked together in the past.
“Dana was my Assistant Principal at West Meadow and she is a wonderful person who will fit in beautifully with the school and school community, and has a very similar leadership philosophy as mine,” says Kathy.
“I will work closely with Dana and the school to make a smooth transition. I'm sure [the community] will welcome her and make her a part of the Stavely School Community the same way [they] generously did for me.”
Dana is also stepping into her new role with enthusiasm.
“I have worked in LRSD for all but two of my years as an educator,” says Dana. “In addition to being an assistant principal, I was a Grade 1 and 3 teacher as well as Learning Support for many years. I have a passion for reading and literacy. I believe that positive relationships are the cornerstone for success. I am excited to become part of the Stavely School community.”
