Board of Trustees - Ward 2
Clara Yagos lived the first few years of her childhood in Coleman then at Lee Lake near Burmis on the family ranch where she currenty resides. She has a daughter and was blessed with a granddaughter in 2010.
Clara attended Fir Grove School then Livingstone (Lundbreck) School. She obtained a BEd from the University of Alberta and worked towards her MEd at the University of Calgary. Clara taught in schools in communities throughout the province including Grande Prairie, Bassano, Sedgewick, Provost, Coalhurst, Piikani First Nations and Lacombe, mainly as a Secondary Social Studies teacher but also at the elementary level. Clara was principal of Lacombe Outreach School with Wolf Creek School Division prior to her retirement in 2006.
Clara is involved as a volunteer advocate with Victim Services in Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass and as a Board Member for Boys and Girls Club of Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek Humane Society / SPCA and Pincher Creek Women's Emergency Shelter Association. She works for the Corps of Commissionaires as a guard at the Pincher Creek RCMP Detachment.
Having worked in rural schools, and being involved in education as a teacher and administrator, Clara understands the issues facing our public school system, especially in rural areas. Given diminishing resources, she knows the difficulties administrators and teachers face in providing a quality education for students. Clara believes that rural students should have the same advantages as their urban counterparts in class size, curriculum materials, availability of course options, technology and human resources.
