Bussing FAQs for 2024-2025 School Year

As a parent, what do I need to do?

Ensure your address is correct with your child’s school. Our Transportation Department is working on determining eligibility and bus route assignments. If your address is correct with your school, there is nothing else you need to do.

How do I know if my child qualifies for bussing?

The student address on file is used in our mapping software. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 who live 1 km or more from their designated school of attendance qualify for bussing. Students in Grade 7 to 12 who live 2 km or more from their designated school of attendance qualify for bussing.  It is vitally important that your address is updated and current with your school.

How is the bussing qualification distance determined?

We use industry-standard routing software that calculates the driving distance from the student address on file to the designated school of attendance.  Alberta Education approves the routing software that determines distances and bussing eligibility. We cannot accept calculations from online maps, which may differ.

Will all of my children qualify for bussing?

Alberta Education legislates that students in Kindergarten to Grade 6 who live 1 km or more from their designated school qualify for bussing, and that students in Grades 7-12 who live 2 km or more from designated school quality for bussing. Therefore, your younger children may be eligible for bussing while your high school-aged children may not.

How will I know our bus route, stop location, and schedule?

If you are eligible for bussing, you will receive this information by mid-August. For existing bussing students, your bus driver will contact you. For newly-qualified bus students, you will receive an email with the details along with your bus driver contact information.

What does my child need to know about riding the bus?

Bussing is a safe and enjoyable experience for students, who can contribute to a positive commute by being responsible, respectful, and following the rules. See our School Bus Information brochure for more information.
