Grant for VR Career Exploration

Posted on

The LRSD Career Services team has been awarded a $10,000 Rural High School Grant, from the CPA Education Foundation of Alberta funded by the Hesje CPA Knowledge Centre.

With a goal to provide a platform for students to explore career opportunities through virtual reality experiences. the Career Services team submitted a grant application titled "Virtual Reality and Careers of the Future." With the Rural High School grant Career Services has purchased the necessary equipment and a one-year subscription to CareerLabsVR. Both LRSD Career Practitioners have mobile systems that are able to provide this unique and popular service to all of our high schools.

Students have participated in pop-up lunch sessions, classroom presentations, and individual appointments where they have had the opportunity to try or watch the career sessions. So far the most popular sessions have been nursing, automotive mechanic, and pipefitter.

Special thank you to the Hesje CPA Knowledge Centre and CPA Education Foundation of Alberta for providing this amazing opportunity for our students. We anticipate the project being a huge success in engaging students to actively explore careers and have fun in the process.
