Nanton Community Group to Raise Funds for New Elementary School Enhancement
Posted onThe Nanton School Enhancement Committee has proposed to raise funds for an expanded Learning Commons space in the new elementary school to be built in Nanton. On December 18, 2023 the Livingstone Range School Division Board of Trustees approved this proposed partnership.
Comprised of dedicated community supporters, the Nanton School Enhancement Committee has the support of other community groups with fundraising experience. The Committee’s proposal to expand the Learning Commons by 100 square metres is motivated by a desire to provide additional collaborative learning space as well as fostering a love of reading within the school community.
The Committee has a letter of support from the Town of Nanton, which will seek a loan for $690,000 and become the guarantor should the committee be unable to raise the funds in time. Livingstone Range School Division is now seeking approval from Alberta Education for the enhancement to be included in the project design.
Design funding for the new and modernized Nanton schools project was approved by Alberta Education in March 2023. We are currently in the design development phase of the project and anticipate construction funding approval in the spring of 2024. Construction for both a newly-built elementary school and modernized junior/high school can take up to three years and will be a minimum of two years.
