Statement on the Kamloops Indian Residential School Burial Site
Posted onIt is with profound sadness that we have learned of the lives of 215 children lost at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.
In response to the tragedy, flags at Livingstone Range School Division schools and buildings will be lowered to half-mast starting Monday, May 31.
Staff and students are encouraged to wear an orange shirt next week to show solidarity with residential school survivors and help send the message that every child matters.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission, established to find the truth in our country’s dark and painful history of residential schools, has called for transparency regarding burial information for children who died at residential schools, including informing their families.
At Livingstone Range School Division, we will continue our work on Indigenous Education and renew our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
