Students Excel at 2025 Regional Skills Competition

Posted on

Congratulations to all of the Livingstone Range School Division high school students who competed in the 2025 Regional Skills Canada Alberta Competition for the Southwest Alberta Region in March. Twelve of our LRSD students received gold, silver, or bronze medals in their category and qualified to move on to the provincial Skills Canada competition in May in Edmonton.

Students showed off their skills in hairstyling, baking, video production, culinary arts, cabinet making, and carpentry, competing against other high school students from southwestern Alberta.

Nevaeh MacKinnon, a Grade 12 student from Livingstone School won first place in the Baking competition and has competed in Skills competitions since Grade 10. "Since my start I have been to provincials once and will be attending again this May," says Mackinnon. "Skills is an awesome program that allows students to learn, create and find tactics. It opens doors and opportunities that one would never even think about. Even since my starting I have learned so much more about the baking field and taken away new skills I may have never learned."

Taking the bronze medal in Cabinet Making, Grady Mackintosh appreciates the Skills competitions. "Skills was a great way for me to explore and offered a chance to experience a peek into Cabinet Making," says Mackintosh, a Grade 12 student at Matthew Halton High School. "I'm grateful for the opportunities Skills offers and would recommend it to anyone wanting to get into trades." He, too, will be going to the provincial Skills competition in Edmonton this spring.
